In Memoriam Of

Elizabeth Carroll

Obituary

Elizabeth “Betts” Carroll, 92, of Midlothian passed away December 18, 2020.

Preceded in death by her parents Mar and Mike Carroll, siblings Tom, Jim, Ed, Bill, and Sue Carroll, and nephew Mike Goodman. Survived by her nephew Jack and spouse Maureen Goodman, great niece and nephews Aley, Mike, Matt, Tim, Bryan and spouse Katie Goodman, her great-great-nephew Luke Goodman, her late nephew’s spouse Sandy Goodman, her brother Jack Carroll, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Betts was often referred to as the saint of the family, yet she far exceeded that title. Her life was a balance between servitude for others and her own fiercely independent will.

Her servitude began when she deployed as a nurse with the army where she was promoted to the rank of Captain on December 22,1960 at a MASH Unit during the Korean War. Even upon returning home, she continued her role as a caretaker. She completed her career as a Cook County nurse and a homecare nurse for VNA patients. She additionally volunteered transportation services for local cancer patients at this time.

At home she provided care for her mother and took in her nephews Mike and Jack, raising them from that point on as her own. She acted as a grandma to their combined five children, taking what may have become a void in their lives and overflowing that space with love and joy. She was an avid lover and adopter of dogs and one lucky ferret, and generously gifted to an array of charities.

Betts was a woman of superb grace and integrity who was and always will be deeply loved and respected by her family, friends, and community. The heavens will welcome her loving spirit graciously.

Her life will be celebrated Monday December 28, 2020 with a visitation from 9 - 10:30 AM at Hickey Memorial Chapel 4201 W. 147th St. Midlothian, IL 60445. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 AM going to St Christopher’s Church for 11 AM Funeral Mass. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery including a military salute.

In lieu of sending flowers, the family asks that you donate to your favorite charity in her name.

Due to the State of Illinois COVID-19 Mitigation Restrictions visitation is limited to 10 people at any given time. We kindly ask that you keep your visit brief to allow others the ability to pay their respects. Due to CDC guidelines, face masks and social distancing is required.
